12 Month Check Up!

Quinn just had her 12 month check up. She got three vaccines and is still sort of cranky from it. I got a flu shot too. yippy. Quinn is now 20lb and 5 oz! What a big girl. She is 28.5 inches long.

Quinn's Head Circumference-for-age is in the 92%. This is such a large jump from her last visit when it was only in the 76%. So we need to go back in next month just to check up on it. I just think she has a big head but it better to be safe than sorry!
Quinn's length-for-age is in the 26% which is right on from last month. She is growning accordingly.

Quinn's Weight-for-length is in the 60% which is up from her ten month check up of 55%. We are happy about this one. We all still remember the 4lb little girl so I am fine if she is a little tubby right now. :)

Lastly, Quinn's weight for age is in the 40% which is up from what looks like the 30% at her ten month check up.

Quinn also now has to see the Dermatologist. She has Seborrheic Dermatitis on her scalp. It pretty much looks like orangish dandruff. I thought that I wasn't getting her shampoo out well enough and I would scrub and scrub her poor little head. I also thought that it was cradle cap. but no.. So now she has to use Selsun Blue. I am nervous about this because it will REALLY sting her eyes if any gets in there. :(

On a sad note, Quinn now has to start seeing a physical/occupational therapist. She still won't put any pressure on her legs (except on her tippy toes when in the bouncer) We have had all of her body X-rayed and Ultrasound-ed (if that's a word) and there isn't anything wrong so our Dr just thinks that she is choosing not to. Dan and I try to get her to stand but with no avail. So now we are going to have a therapist come out and help our little angel. The program is called Infants and Toddlers. Here is some info on it:

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), authorized in 1975 and reauthorized most recently in 1997, supports efforts to provide coordinated service delivery systems for children with disabilities from birth through age 5. Children are best served within the context of their families. Services for infants and toddlers are designed to identify and treat a problem or delay as early as possible.

On an exciting note, Quinn sat up completely on her own for the FIRST time the other night. Also, she drank from a sippy cup for the FIRST time last night. She usually just chews on the sippys or plays with them. I am VERY proud of her!!!!!

Yeah for Quinny for sitting up and drinking from a sippy, for gaining weight and height!! I wouldn't worry too much about her head size. The VS family have big heads. They were worried about Chase's when he was a baby and we had to buy MacG an adult size bike helmet when he was 2. Poor kid.

Good luck with the therapists. I hope they are able to help her and give her the motivation she needs. Also, my motherinlaw left you a message in the comment section of one my posts a few weeks back. I don't assume you ever went back to read the comments again so I'll put it here. She was resonding to a comment you made about Quinn not wanting to walk yet.

This comment is for o-family. Have the child's feet checked out. Our son didn't want to walk until he had orthotics put in his shoes. After that he was up and on the go.

I guess it's worth asking about!

Quinn is such a beautiful and happy little angel. I am so proud of all she has accomplished this past year. She has overcome a great deal and if wants to take her time walking, well that's okay with me. She will walk. Perhaps she is a litte tired because of how hard she had to fight during her first 6 months of life. I say let's give Quinn a break. She is grabbing everything and talking up a storm. It is not her fault we don't understand baby.

Love you all - Mom

ps - the new outfit is adorable!

What a stylin girl Quinn is! And congrats to her on "poppin a squat"! She is making leaps and bounds...and will continue to do so in her own time for sure! Glad you'll have a little assistance to give her the best opportunity to keep developing!

That's interesting - about the Dermatitis...I wonder if Alissa may have it as well! She still has some flakes on her head...and I assummed it was stubborn cradle cap...but I'll ask her pediatrician next time I see him if it's that instead! She is getting a little old for cradle cap...so perhaps this is her problem as well! I'm glad I read this!

I love her outfit. She is really starting to look like a little girl and not a baby. I am so happy she is growing so well.

You know what they say Quinny... "don't do the black without the blue... selson blue" I am so happy that she is such a healthy little baby, she doesn't look like she's missed any meals lately... Her outfit is adorable. Isn't it great that early detection can help treat these challenges for children. Quinny's got great parents!
